About

Hello, my name is Katrina Kessler and I would like to welcome you to my portfolio site.

Some people may dance, others will lay down their own story onto paper with words; creative expression means something different for each individual. I was lucky enough to come across a talent for creating visual art. I love how with art, you literally have the ability to create whatever you desire, to make a piece that’s entirely unique to you. The imagination is unlimited and that is amazing to me. Whether I’m elated or possibly just bored, I have the choice to make a visual to express that, to visibly create an outlet for whatever it is consuming my thoughts.

The works that I make are nearly always of human subjects, they’re my muse. Many are made up from the imagination, but I draw real life people from observation as well. This is a skill derived from my days spent drawing caricatures and portraits at Kings Island over the summers. Switching back from style to style, medium to medium, I learn how to have variation in my art work. The people I work with are who inspire me the most; I see how the outstanding they are, and to think that they started where I am  motivates me like no other.

After spending the past three summers working in an art position, I came to the conclusion that  should carry art into my future career path. I plan on attending Miami University for Graphic Design starting in the fall semester of 2016. Although this isn’t quite the same as drawing caricatures in the blistering summer heat, the artistic demand will still be present. I’m hoping to minor in something like painting so I can still carry on creating what I love, being gorgeous portraits and figures.

My end goal when creating is to portray beautiful people. I have this desire to be at a point where I am always happy with what I make, though speaking from experience, I know that this is not possible. I’ve learned that no matter how good you get, you yourself will never lose the passion to improve. You may get to a point you never imagined you would, but at that point you have set the bar higher. This is what pushes me. I’m kept going by the thought that one’s potential truly is unlimited; as long as I keep working to create, I’ll keep improving.
